Plaza del Comte de Priego - Cordoba

The restored Comte de Priego and Santa Marina squares converge under the dominant of the parish church.

Plaça del Comte de Priego is named after the Comte de Priego's main house, which used to stand on the corner and later belonged to the Marquis of Ontiveros. The house, whose beautiful romantic garden is still remembered by the older residents of the neighborhood, disappeared in the 1960s.

Noteworthy is the white austerity of the opposite wall, belonging to the Convent of the Poor Clares of Santa Isabel de los Ángeles - founded in the 15th century under the patronage of the Marquises of Villaseca - with two rows of windows inside; the upper ones alternate with cartouches bearing fragments of the prayer of thanksgiving “Blessed be the dearest names of Jesus, Mary and Joseph”.

Plaça del Comte de Priego is also like a rectangular bullring, from which lamented Manolete, cape in hand, awaits the departure of an imaginary bull for a memorable bullfight . The monument to the bullfighter who spent the years of his early victories in the nearby Plaza de la Lagunilla is the work of the sculptor Álvarez Laviada and was erected in 1956 with the proceeds of a great bullfight directed by Carlos Arruza.
