It was one of the chapels accessible from the atrium of the Franciscan monastery Casa Grande de San Francisco. It is one of the only remains of the old monastery , together with the arquillo of the town hall. The chapel dates from the 16th century and is in Baroque style.
The monastery was exclaved and decommissioned in 1835. It was demolished in the early 1840s.
Since November 20, 2005 , Eucharistic Adoration Forever has been held in the chapel, with some 600 volunteers devoting an hour a week to permanently accompanying the Blessed Sacrament, twenty-four hours a day.
The chapel's main altarpiece was made in 1682 by Bernardo Simón de Pineda and gilded in 1683 by Miguel Parrilla. On the bench there is a relief of the souls in purgatory with San Lorenzo and San Francisco on either side. In the first part there is a statue of the Virgen de la Candelaria with San Fernando and San Hermenegildo on either side. In the attic there is a relief of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and on the windowsill a relief of God the Father.
On the Gospel wall is the altarpiece of San Onofre, made by Juan Martínez Montañés in 1606. In the center of the first part is a statue of San Onofre made by Pedro Díaz de la Cueva in 1599. In the middle of the second part is a statue of Saint Anne from the 17th century, flanked by two statues of Saint Joseph and Saint Anthony by an anonymous author.9 In the central street of the altarpiece are paintings of saints by Francisco Pacheco from 1605: Saint Anna, Saint Mary Magdalene, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Dominic, Saint Francis, Saint Jerome and Saint Peter the Martyr.
On the wall of the Gospel there is also a relief of the Trinity, executed around 1580, which resembles the work of Jerónimo Hernández.10
On the epistle side is the altarpiece of San Laureano, made by Laureano de Segura between 1683 and 1685. In the center is the statue of San Laureano, probably the work of Pedro Roldán. In the attic there is a relief of Saint John on Patmos in a vision of the Immaculate Conception and, in the attic, the head of John the Baptist.
