The Bullring of Seville, known as Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla (the Square of the Bulls of the Royal Armory of the Sevillian Cavalry), is one of the most iconic and historic bullrings in the world. It is the largest and most important bullfighting arena in Spain.
The Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla is a royal knighthood founded in 1670 to train cavalry units.
Construction of the arena began in 1761 and continued for more than a century, until 1881. The arena was originally built as a square arena but later rebuilt in a circular shape to improve sight lines for the 13,000 spectators. It has a unique Baroque facade from the period 1762 -1881. The arena is painted white with gold accents and has a characteristic red sand floor.
Many famous bullfighters, such as Juan Belmonte and Manolete, have competed in this arena, contributing to its legendary status.
