St-Maurice-sur-Moselle is known as one of the three villages from where you can approach the ascend to the Ballon d'Alsace. St-Maurice-sur-Moselle is probably the most famous one because it was from here that the Tour de France approached the Ballon d' Alsace for the first time. In 1906, the famous cyclist René Poitier climbed the Ballon d'Alsace in 1/2 hour.
