Château de Montgilbert

Castle

FR |

Public

Built during the 13th century, the Château de Montgilbert is located at the top of a rocky hillock in one of the turns of the Vareille.

The castle fell into neglect. The castle was completely abandoned in the 18th century, just before the French Revolution. In the 19th century, it was used as a stone quarry by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood, which only accelerated its ruin.
