Cahors is best known as the centre of the famous AOC 'black' wine. Already since the Middle Ages they exported teh wine via Bordeaux, long before that region had developed its own viticulture industry. The dominant grape variety in AOC Cahors wines is Malbec. It is supplemented by up to 30% Merlot and Tannat. Cahors wine can be rather tannic when young, and benefit from aging.
