The Champ du Feu is the highest point in the Bas-Rhin at Ban de la Roche, at an altitude of 1,098 metres, on the banks of the communes of Belmont and Hohwald. In winter, the place is suitable for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing.
The Champ du Feu is one of the high places of astronomy in Alsace and in the East of France. Amateur astronomers from the region visit it all year round, as soon as the weather permits, winter and summer. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, an "Astronomy Night" is organised on the large tarmac car park along the D414. This gathering attracts a hundred amateur astronomers, who come from all over Eastern France with their telescopes or telescopes of all types. This event is open to the public. It is organised by a collective of astronomy clubs in the Bas-Rhin region who wish to preserve this site from any light pollution.
