Rheims Cathedral

A magic ampulla was kept in this cathedral. According to the founding myth of France, the Holy Spirit, in the guide of a dove, deliverd an ampulla full of sacred oil for the baptism of King Clovis, founder of the Frankish kingdom. You can see that on the illustration from the Grand Chroniques de France, c. 1380 (see image). All subsequent kings were anointed with the divine oil at their coronation. The empty ampulla spontaneously refillled with oil for each coronation. This mircale indicated that God Himself chose the king. If God had not wished these people to be king, the ampulla would not have been refilled.
