Rue des Duinkerk Veterans
World War II memorial site where a shameful massacre occurred.
On 28 May 1940, the Germans attacked the Wormhout junction, a strategic point for their advance towards Dunkirk, which was fiercely defended by the British. During this confrontation, a hundred soldiers belonging to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Cheshire Regiment and Royal Artillery were taken prisoner, then led and locked up in a barn located on a pasture at a place called "La Plaine au Bois" in Esquelbecq.
