Located on the edge of the Bois de Fontainebleau, the charming village of Barbizon became famous for its landscape painters of the 19th century such as Théodore Rousseau, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Charles-François Daubigny and also Jean-François Millet. The art movement of the Barbizon School, seen as one of the forerunners of Impressionism, reached its peak in the period from 1830 to 1875, when these artists came to enjoy the tranquility of the village and the beauty of nature.
