The Giens Peninsula is a peninsula on the French Mediterranean coast near Hyères in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The peninsula is effectively a narrow, hilly island uniquely connected to the main land by two strips of land.Between these strips, the east and west tombolo, lay old salt evaporation ponds. These are not used anymore for salt production, and instead provide a unique marshland known for its population of flamingo.
