The church, dedicated to Saint Géry, is built in the first half of the 13th century in the troubadour style. It can be proud of being - today - the oldest church of Valenciennes, built at the request of the Franciscans. The belfry was added in 1851. Bombarded in 1944, it was rebuilt and restored to worship in 1965. In 1946, the building was classified as a historical monument. On Saturday, August 7, 2010, the church was visited by vandals who had attacked two statues and had committed other degradations.
The church consists of a nave and two low sides. From its origin in the 13th century, it has preserved 12 pillars of blue stone with their capitals, symbolizing the 12 apostles, and part of his choir. Because of this symbolization it's a popular stop for the pilgrims who are following the route of Saint-James, wich was one of those 12 apostles himself.
