This monument is not well known, but it marks the exact location of the crash of a French airplane in Laon during the First World War, an episode that marked the spirits of both the inhabitants and the German occupiers.
Today it houses the grave of Brigadier Frédéric Quellenec, whose plane was shot down by a German aircraft on Friday 31/03/1916, even though he and his co-pilot Lieutenant Moinier had been buried (with honors) by the Germans in a military cemetery located in the upper town, on the Saint-Vincent plateau...
