The palace of Compiègne is one of the most important French royal and imperial residences after Versailles and Fontainebleau. If the origins of the palace go back to the Middle Ages, it is to Louis XV and Louis XVI, that we owe its current appearance of elegant neoclassical castle. After the Revolution, the palace of Compiegne was redesigned by Napoleon I and Napoleon III. The fabulous decorations and furniture of the First and Second Empire in the imperial apartments bear witness to this. And to continue the journey into history, head for the Second Empire Museum and the National Car Museum.
