Since it was founded in 1973, the CAPC – originally known as the Centre of Contemporary Plastic Arts and officially titled the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bordeaux since 1984 – has always been an outstanding art space. A leading cultural venue in the national and international arena, dubbed Musée de France in 2002, it offers a rich and diverse programme of temporary exhibitions, performances, and cultural and educational events throughout the year.
The museum is located in the district of Les Chartrons, between the banks of the Garonne and the Jardin Public. Its home is the Entrepôt Lainé, a listed former colonial goods warehouse built in 1824 and renovated by the architects Denis Valode and Jean Pistre, in collaboration with the designer Andrée Putman, between 1984 and 1990.
