The 13th-century cloister of the Récollets, remarkable for its elegance and simplicity, is a small haven of serenity in the heart of the city. In 1972, Jean-Marie Pelt founded the Institut Européen d?Ecologie, whose headquarters are still located here. Two gardens have been laid out in partnership with the Société Française d'Ethnopharmacologie: the jardin des simples, a garden of non-toxic medicinal plants used by monks to treat the sick, and the jardin des plantes toxiques, which features dangerous plants used as raw materials in pharmacy to prepare medicines. The Société Française de Pharmacologie offers free guided tours every 15 days from June to September.
