As early as the 1880s, the Catholic community of Verrerie-Sophie, with the support of the Hackspiel and then Riff parish priests, planned to replace the Saint Roch Chapel (now destroyed), which had become too small to accommodate the faithful. On January 25, 1937, Father Halter broke the ground for the first time. On 16 October 1938, Bishop Heintz presided over the blessing ceremony for the new church.
