A jewel of thousand-year-old architecture, it accompanies the highlights of local life, watching over the city with its belfry tower like a sentinel of pink Vosges sandstone. Its heterogeneous silhouette blending the different eras conquers us, just as it conquered the hearts of the Spinaliens..
The Basilica of St. Mauritius deserves our visit, whatever our confession!
Born in the 11th century, it was originally a parish church but also an abbey, under the name of St Goëry whose relics cured "the evil of the fiery".
In the 13th century, these pilgrimages made it possible to finance the work, and the church then hosted a chapter of noble ladies. A transition building between Romanesque and Gothic, its architecture bears witness to its evolution, mixing Rhenish, Burgundian and Champagne styles. Penetrating through the bourgeois gate to the west, humility wins us over in front of this 14-metre high Nave!
The stands of the Transept, each served by a spiral staircase, justify the 2 turrets visible outside and so characteristic! In an atmosphere of chiaroscuro, after admiring the Entombment, the Chapel of the Rosary, the reliquaries, we leave this emblematic place to rediscover the daily life that surrounds it?
