Near the church of Arconville is the monument to the war victims and a marker of the passage of the 2nd Armored Division during the liberation of France in Arconville.
The 2nd Armored Division (2nd DB) of the French Army, commanded by General Philippe Leclerc, played a crucial role during the liberation of France in World War II. The 2nd DB landed on Utah Beach on August 1, 1944 and took part in the Battle of Normandy.
One of the most iconic moments of the 2nd DB was the liberation of Paris on August 25, 1944 . The division continued their advance east and was involved in the counter-attacks against the German Ardennes offensive. The division eventually crossed the Rhine and entered Germany , liberating key cities and advancing into Bavaria.
The passage of the 2nd Armored Division is an important part of French history and is commemorated annually by various events and ceremonies in the towns and villages involved.
