Max Berthelin's first wooden circus was completely destroyed by a major fire in 1892.
In 1905, the new municipal circus by Henri Schmit was built, where equestrian shows, boxing matches and even film screenings were held. It was listed as a monument in 1975 and closed for three years to be converted into a theatre.
In 1978, the Théâtre de Champagne was born. This theatre with 1,080 or 1,350 seats stages contemporary shows of all kinds (comedy, comedy, singing, music, opera, children's shows, etc.) according to a programme put together by the Maison du Boulanger - Centre Culturel.
