This is day 5 of the Western Front Way: from Liverdun to Verdun.
"The Western Front Way is the realisation of a World War One soldier's dream. In 1915 Alexander Gillespie wrote a number of letters describing his vision of turning the "No Mans Land" into a path for peace; a route for people of all nations to travel together from Switzerland to the Channel. He was killed a few months later.
For the last few years we have been trying to deliver his wish on the ground in France and Belgium by establishing plaques and markers in towns, villages and tourist sites along a line of the Western Front. The charity can be found at www.thewesternfrontway.com. The Western Front Way takes about ten days to cover the 1000 km. You will be visiting many famous places associated with World War one on the way - Verdun, Vimy Ridge, Theipval, etc.
