Glen Roy is a National Nature Reserve and is noted for the geological puzzle of the three roads ("Parallel Roads").

Glen Roy was visited by Charles Darwin to see the parallel “roads” cut into the hillsides at three heights. Charles later published his view that these were marine raised beaches. This was wrong. He had to accept later on that they were shorelines of a proglacial lake.
