Manchester Town Hall was completed by architect Alfred Waterhouse in 1877 and is a fine example of Victorian Gothic. Check the murals by Ford Madox Brown.

The entrance hall has statues of the scientists James Prescott Joule (born nearby Manchester in Salford) and John Dalton (who lived for a long time in George Street in Manchester).

Decorating the floor of the entrance hall is a mosaic depicting the bee, the symbol of Manchester being a hive of industry during the 19th century.
