At Fotheringhay Castle, Mary Queen of Scots was told that she was to be executed the next day. It was 7 February 1587.
Some sources state that Mary Queen of Scots suffered from baldness she was hiding with a wig. Thi sbecame obvious when the executioner picked up her decapitated head and the wig came loose.
Also King Richard III was born here in 1452.
There is nothing left of the castle to be seen today other than the motte on which it was built that provides excellent views of the River Nene.
