The Temple in Wanstead Park is one of the few remaining buildings surviving from the estate of Wanstead House, one of the glories of 18th architecture. The Temple was built in the 1760s by John Child, Earl Tylney as a garden feature within the fashionable landscaped gardens of the house. Today The Temple is open every Saturday and Sunday 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm as a Forest Centre where visitors can enjoy displays about the history of Wanstead Park and Epping Forest.
