Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

The rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede is a suspension bridge that connects the mainland with the island of Carrick Island. Salmon fishermen built bridges at this place for several centuries. The bridge spans 20 meters and hangs 30 meters above the rocks. Though nobody has fallen from the bridge, many visitors do not dare to pass the bridge. This bridge is mainly a tourist attraction with some 140,000 visitors per year (2005). In the salmon season (June to September) also salmon fishermen still use the bridge, although the salmon fishery has become marginal.
