There is a strange lamppost in the middle of Carting Lane. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be anything special about it. But it is the last " Sewer gas destructor lamp ". Such a lamp was previously used in many places to burn out the gases that accumulated in the sewerage system. This is the last one you can still find in London. Dishonestly, this is also called the fart pole.
The story of this lamp has given rise to locals referring to Carting Lane as 'Farting Lane'.
