The Erymanthian Boar, a giant fear-inspiring creature of the wilds, lived on Mount Erymanthos.
The mountain was the hunting ground of the sacred Artemis (Diana). It was the task of Heracles to capture the Erymanthian Boar. Heracles got the advice from the centaur Chiron to drive the boar into the snow, because then the boar is easy to catch.
