The almost 600 m heigh hill Ayos Ilias sticks out as a cone above the surrounding plateaus. It might look like a volcanic cone, but it has nothing to do with volcanoes. It is constructed with a hard conglomerate, quite resistant against erosion. Nevertheless, it is quite peculiar that the shape is such a nice cone.
You can even see this cone from near Old Messina, about 30km away.
