Almyropotamos means "salty river". This might sound strange but there is a salt water source near this village, giving it his name. It is assumed that the water comes from the sea from the other side of the island. Strange is that it shows up at this height. A similiar phenomenon is known in the island of Kefalonia on the other side of Greece (Ionian Sea).
