The Artemonas windmill is located in a prime location. It stands on the watershed crest of 3 basins. In addition, this location receives winds from the most common wind directions on Sifnos. The winds are directed via the Kamares Valley. Winds from the north are guided along the ridge of Panagia Magana - Agios Merkourios. These from the east are sent steeply from the coast over a distance of 1 km to the mill. From the south the wind reaches this place over the Apolloni plateau. Only winds from the SW are blocked by the ridge of Profitis Ilias. But those winds are not that common.
