You will find Laurus nobilis or laurel amost in any Greek garden. Daphne was a mountain nimph pursued by Apollo. Distressed by his persistent avances, she asked Gaia for help. The Earth Godess transformed her into a shrub, the laurel. Broken-hearted, Apollo adroned his brow with leaves to recall Daphne. It became the ceremonial 'laurel' of the ancient Greeks and Romans. It was a symbol of wisdom and glory.
