Description

The Agia Anna chapel is located almost 20m above sea level. This means that this chapel was flooded on July 9, 1956 by the tsunami caused by the strongest earthquake that Greece experienced in the 20th century. The epicenter was a few kilometers from the coast here in the graben area south of Amorgos. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the tsunami on the southern coast of Amorgos reached more than 20m.
