Lavagh More Mountain Challenge

Access: Access is not easily found as the road leading up to the starting point is an isolated local road. Parking is very limited so care should be taken not to block local access. Driving from Ballybofey to Glenties along the R253, take a side road on your left (right if travelling from Glenties to Ballybofey). By using the interactive map available on the main mountain challenge page, you should be able to navigate your way successfully to the starting point of the hike (OSI Map 11, grid ref: G 937 932). The Sli na Finne hike takes you very close to this mountain so the option is there to incorporate this climb into your hike.

Difficulty level: Moderate to Difficult - Good level of fitness required, no defined path, wet boggy land to be expected with steep ground in some areas. Appropriate footwear and hiking equipment should be worn. Bring sufficient food / water and have a map and navigational aids at hand.

Estimated time to climb & return to car park: Allow for 2.5 – 3.5hrs, dependent on fitness levels and weather.

Total climb ascent: 465m

Notable features: Depending on the time of year, ground underfoot can be wet in places. There is no defined pathway, but the route highlighted avoids the steep ground as best possible. Those looking to extend the hike can take in Lavagh Beg to the NW of the Lavagh More summit and use an alternate route to ascend/descend.
