Livorno gave its name to the chicken breed leghorn, made famous by the cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies for Warner Bross.

The name of Livorno in the 17th century was Legorno. The English called it Leghorn. From here, the English imported a type of straw to create heads. That was the first meaning of leghorn.

From here, an Italian sailor transported in 1835 chickens to the US from here of the specific type Gallina Livornese. The chicken is known as leghorn and became a very popular breed..
