The construction of the Church of Saint Augustine and the Augustinian Monastery began when the Augustinians arrived in the city in procession. They carried the holy relics of the SS. Thorns, which are still preserved here. Today it houses the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art.
It seems that the church and monastery with the adjacent vegetable garden already existed before the middle of the 14th century.
The facade, half Romanesque and half 18th century, was surmounted by four stone busts of Saints Augustine, Thomas of Villanova, Nicholas and Monnica. Along the aisles are five altars on each side, while two chapels open into the right aisle and two on either side of the choir
