Built in the 13th century, with a single nave, according to the type of hut-shaped buildings typical of the mendicant orders, on a site donated by the municipality of Volterra to the hermits of Sant'Agostino di Montecatini Val di Cecina, where they built the chapel from Santa Lucia servants; it was transformed into a three-aisled vaulted nave in the first half of the 18th century, when it also got its current facade.
On the front of the counter is the funerary monument of Alessandro Riccobaldi Del Bava from 1523; other works include a painted cross on a molded panel from the 13th century; a fresco of the Madonna and Child by Cenni di Francesco (14th century); and a painted terracotta Pietà attributed to Zaccaria Zacchi; Thomas of Villanuova and Saint Clare of Montefalco, Praying by Baldassarre Franceschini (17th century); a fragment of a fresco depicting the Crucifix with the Virgin and Saint Romuald, attributed to Stefano di Antonio Vanni (15th century), brought here after being removed from the refectory of the abbey of Saints Justus and Clement.
