Cisterns Solunto

Source: Willem Vandenameele

Cisterns have been carved into the rock at the highest point of the city.[1] These collected rainwater and were connected to other cisterns in the city, which led to the large covered public cistern (cisterna pubblica) behind the agora. Because the city had no water source, many wells were dug.

The roof of the cisterns was supported by columns, the foot of which can still be seen here.
