Born November 30, 1819 in Trabia.
Already in 1848, having been one of the supporters of the Sicilian Revolution (his courageous and almost solitary initiative in the Piazza della Fieravecchia in Palermo is well known) and having held the post of Chief of Staff of the Sicilian Army , he went into exile in Florence .
He also took part in the first war of independence in Lombardy, as leader of a volunteer corps sent by the government of Sicily.
After the unification of Italy, he entered the regular army and reached the rank of major general.
As a journalist and man of letters, he left behind historical works on the Risorgimento.
Because of his fiery and somewhat Gascon character (as Dumas called him), he was often antagonized and humiliated by Sirtori and Bixio, who called him General Aeneas.
He died in Rome on March 29, 1881 and was buried in the church of the Bevilacqua Castle , owned by his wife, Duchess Felicita.
The latter bequeathed to his executors the creation of the existing marble monument in Piazza Duomo.
