The Church of Santa Maria di Gesù was founded around 1450 according to some sources. Other sources move the date of the church's foundation to the end of the 15th century. The church was probably expanded at that time. The church originally stood in open countryside, about 300 meters from the city walls.
The entrance portal to the church was made in 507 in Carrara marble.
Bartolomeo Berrettaro's sixteenth-century Virgin and Child dominates the main altar. In a side chapel you can admire the very valuable Greek Madonna
