There is nothing left to see of the Agora except an open space. But a lot of research has been done into what it looked like.
The agora was an imposing space on large picturesque terraces, surrounded on three sides by colonnades (stoai) around which administrative buildings (such as the bouleuterion ), cult buildings and honorary monuments were concentrated.
The square was 40 by 80 meters. The Stoa was built in the second century BC. It was 14 meters high and 11 meters wide.
The Agora was the public place par excellence. It contained shops, offices and notices about taxes and laws were posted on the walls.
During Roman times the Agora became the Forum of that time, but the building was replaced by a temple. Possibly everything was partially destroyed by a natural phenomenon and abandoned in the third century .
In the 12th and 13th centuries, building materials were reused to build a village.
