Description

The Necropoli Paleocristiana dates from the early Christian period, probably from the 4th to the 6th century AD. This was a pivotal time in the history of Christianity as it marked the transition period from persecution of Christians to acceptance and recognition of Christianity in the Roman Empire.

The necropolis was discovered in the 19th century during archaeological excavations. The catacombs were underground tunnels and chambers used for burying the dead and for religious ceremonies.

The necropolis contains inscriptions, frescoes and sculptures with Christian symbolism, such as the Chi-Rho sign, fish, doves and other Christian symbols.
