Palazzo Wirz - Palermo

Palazzo Wirz was built in 1834 and is part of the remaining part of that building curtain with the adjacent Florio buildings and Palazzo Maniscalco-Basile .

The compact, well-balanced building has a calibrated system of openings on the street side, in cadence to indicate the three floors on which the building rises, with the typical band of attachments on the ground floor organized in parallel horizontal rows interrupted only by the turrets/windows enriched with polygonal balconies on the second floor.

The battlements of the roof plan are striking as one of the happy solutions of nineteenth-century Sicilian neo-medievalism.

It is the pointed arches, turned pilasters, spiers and the decorations of the intersecting partial arches that ultimately define the scenographic background through the declination of the neo-Gothic in the "Catalan" matrix of the entire facade in front of the Sacred Heart Square.
