Built by order of Natale Amodeo, a wealthy tanner and shoemaker in 1614-20 and opened for worship in 1638 , this church is one of the most beautiful in Sciacca due to its vastness.
The facade, with its linear architectural style , has bright lime plastered surfaces, enhanced by exposed gilded stone pilasters. The first order is marked by three portals . On the tympanum of the main entrance stands a 15th-century white marble statue of Saint Michael, taken from another church dedicated to the saint, which was built in 1614 and is now a primary school.
On the inside of the façade is an imposing 17th-century choir stalls , lavishly carved in Baroque style, and an organ dating from 1832 . The church contains valuable works of sculpture and painting, including a 15th century wood-painted St. Jerome and a bas-relief depicting the angel Gabriel and the child Tobias, from an earlier church of St. Michael built by the Peralta family who no longer exists.
The main altar houses the 17th-century wooden statue of Saint Michael, attributed to Li Volsi. The paintings that decorate the church are by Luigi Schittone.
