The "West-Indisch huis" was the headquarters of the Dutch West Indies Company. It was here that the historic decision took place to establish a trading post on the River Hudson, in 1624, which was to be called "New Amsterdam", which greater became New York. It was also in this house that the famous Spanish treasure of the admiral Piet Heyn was stored.
