De Hoop is a windmill built in 1888 in the Dutch hamlet of Appel. The mill replaced the scaffolding mill that burned down across the road, which dates from 1863. De Hoop is an octagonal grist mill of the scaffolding mill type with a stone substructure and a wooden, thatched superstructure. The Wooden octagon comes from an oil mill in Zwolle, which in turn probably originates from the Zaan region. There are 2 pairs of grindstones. One pair of grinding stones is grindable and is used according to the need. One couple still has natural stone millstones, which were mostly extracted from volcanic raw material from the German Eifel. The other stones of the grinding couple are artificial stones that have a special, hard layer on the grinding side. The base shows that there was once a pair of pelts in the mill. There is a regulator on the mill, which is however out of use.
