Description

Built in 1892 in Neo-Renaissance style to a design by architect R. Kuipers, the Eben Haëzerkerk used to be called Pniëlkerk when the Dolerende or Low German Reformed Congregation met here. In 1921, the Old Reformed Congregation bought the church, which was renamed after its old church on the Havenkade, which in turn was named after the memorial stone that Samuel erected after a victory over the Philistines. In 1933 the church was transferred to the Reformed Church, but only after a lawsuit against some members of the congregation who did not agree with this, the church came into its possession in 1938.
