Start and end point is fort Maarsseveen, Herenweg 3, Maarsseveen. The fortification (on the photo you can see the door of the fort) was built between 1880 and 1881. From the roof of Fort Maarsseveen the view over the surroundings is fantastic: in the north polder landscape, in the south and east the bushes and water features of the Maarsseveense Plassen. The fort itself is not accessible, but the site is a pleasant, green place with benches, picnic tables, a well-maintained moat and the stairs to the roof of the fort.
The Werk bij Maarsseveen, as Fort Maarsseveen is officially called, is part of the New Dutch Water Line, a cultural-historical corridor that cuts right through the heart of the Netherlands.
