According to tradition, the Morian was built in 1220 by Henry I of Brabant for his friend Beckerlijn. It is a Gothic brick hall house with a round turret.
In the era in which De Moriaan was built, more such buildings were completed in 's-Hertogenbosch. However, all other such buildings have been (largely) demolished or are no longer recognizable as such.
In 1956, the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch wanted to demolish this building to give traffic more space. In a special meeting, the minister was eventually asked to refuse a demolition permit, which ultimately succeeded. Then, in the 1960s, a restoration was carried out.
