In 1854, the founders of the sugar factory settled near the canal on the spot where the Brugkerk now stands. In 1866 a beetroot factory was built here. After that, from 1866 to 1870, the first workers' houses were built and the creation of Lemelerveld was a fact. The factory was in full operation until 1917. The sugar beets were supplied via the Overijssels canal. Where the Brugkerk now stands, the port of call for the ships was located.
The Bridge Church was built in 2002 and was inaugurated on October 26, 2003. The building was designed by architect G.J. van den Belt in Dalfsen. When you enter the building, you enter the meeting room, the so-called forecourt, behind which is the church hall with 4 skylights at the top that face all four cardinal points with the original colors red, blue, white and yellow. Two long corridors on either side lead to one to a beautiful garden 'Garden of Eden. There is a colonnade around the church hall. The design is derived from the construction of Roman temples and (early) Christian churches ('basilica').
